Be Inspired to Paint!
A perennial favorite among North Light members, Splash is back with another big, brilliant, cover-to-cover celebration of watercolor. It's like having a museum right on your coffee table!
Splash 10 explores "passion" through the work and words of 100 contemporary painters. With each vividly reproduced modern-day masterpiece, insightful firsthand commentary taps into the psyche of the artist to explore where their passion comes from, and where it leads them--you'll not only learn the "technical" how-to behind the artists' techniques, but the "emotional" how-to that will motivate you to grab hold of this amazing medium and portray the subjects you love.
Express Yourself!
The "Passionate Brushstrokes" in Splash 10 take wing from any number of sources--a handful of peppermints, the quiet grace of a beloved old horse, travels to places where "even the walls have personality," and spectacular moments created by the warm late-afternoon sun partnering with rich, cool cast shadows. Some of the artists find passion in their materials (like rice paper) or in the very act of putting paint to paper, whether it be broad, wet, saturated strokes of pure color applied with big brushes and arm-swinging applications, or meditative, economical strokes. For others, their passion for paint is inextricably bound to some other great passion--sailing, gardening, travels, sunrise walks on the beach...they simply can't have one without the other.
Here's what some of the artists in Splash 10 have to say:
"Pouring, spattering and freely splashing watercolor onto paper allows my passion to flow freely-from my heart, to my hand and through my brush."
-Jamie Cordero
"Brushwork is a key element in all my work. I want the viewer to be aware of the fact that this is a painting, not a photograph. Painterly strokes and varied color let the viewer feel the energy, excitement and pure joy that this artist feels while painting!"
-Bev Jozwiak
"When I am true to my inspiration, my brushstrokes sometimes surprise me by exposing something of my inner spirit I was not even aware of."
-Keiko Tanabe
Discover Your Passion for Painting!
Featured artist Jerry Stitt (page 16) contemplates that "A painting is good not because it looks like something, but because it feels like something." The difference is passion--the kind of energy, excitement and pure joy that pulses through every page of Splash 10. Savor it. Be inspired.
