Daring Color, Mix and Mingle Watercolor on Your Paper
By Anne Abgott Item No. #Z0053

Be Daring with Color!
Mix your paints right on the paper for glowing results!
Discover a fresh approach to mixing dynamic color! By mingling and charging pigments directly on your paper, rather than mixing them on your palette, you can achieve a thrilling balance of 'controlling' your watercolors, while at the same time letting them work their magic.

The technique is fast--no layering or glazing necessary--and the payoff instantaneous...you'll see the luminous, glowing results right away! Color mingling is at the heart of Anne Abgott's vibrant watercolors. Her enthusiasm for this technique is nothing short of contagious. In this book, Anne reveals her personal tricks and techniques to clean and daring color. You'll learn how to avoid common color-mixing mistakes, how to combine colors successfully in a painting, and how to make even shadows glow with color and light.

Don't Mix...Mingle!
Mixed on a palette, colors can loose their individual identities and turn quickly to mud. Colors remain cleaner and richer when they meet on paper. When pigment and water are allowed to mingle and move on their own into the paper, you can apply paint thick or thin, side by side, warm against cool...creating interesting textures and lively color passages that cannot be achieved any other way! It's as easy as:
1. Prepare two (or more) juicy puddles of color on your palette.
2. Apply the first color to either dry or wet paper, depending on desired results.
3. Rinse and blot your brush, and paint the second color touching the edge of the first color, and enjoy the show!

Get to Know the Personality of Color
Anne shares the favorite pigments on her palette, their characteristics, shortcut color recipes, and suggestions for useful applications. (Mingle Brown Madder with Ultramarine Blue for rocks or old buildings. Try mingling Verditer Blue with Cobalt Blue for skies and shadows.)

Color by Color
Anne demonstrates how mingling works for each color family: yellows, reds, blues, greens and violets, plus a special section on adding excitement to your grays and creating the kind of dramatic shadows that bring a painting to life.

There is a tremendous amount of color know-how here. For example, yellow can easily lose its integrity when mixed on the palette with other colors. Mingling allows you to use yellows as brilliantly and as cleanly as possible--one hue next to the other. Mingling also offers a perfect solution for controlling overpowering colors such as tube greens.

Let Your Colors Flow--Step By Step!
Throughout this book, many inspirational finished paintings illustrate Anne's techniques, with captions describing how mingled colors yield fabulous effects. In addition, 8 mini-demos and 16 complete painting demonstrations will help you master the techniques of mixing and mingling color in the real-life context of a painting.

The subjects in this book are diverse, and each teaches an important lesson. Painting a sculpted silver bowl and pears shows you how to mingle grays to create interesting shadow patterns. Other demonstrations key in on using mingled colors to evoke reflections in the water, foliage shadows against a bright, sunlit wall, the gorgeous sculptural shapes of vegetables, intense, dark backgrounds, and more.
Daring Color is a wild and very enjoyable ride...also direct and uncomplicated. Use it to add a breath of fresh air--and fresh color--to your paintings. Watercolor.
